The General Commission on Ministry holds clergy standing and has oversight for ministers engaged in these types of ministry:
- ministry located outside the United States and Canada;
- ministry accountable to one of the General Ministries of the church;
- ministries of the ecumenical church;
- ministry with organizations whose responsibilities extend beyond one Region;
- full-time military, Veterans Affairs, and federal corrections chaplaincies.
All other ministries are Regional. For those ministers, standing is held by a Region based on the primary ministry site.
